Hey guys! If you follow us on Instagram, you know I just tried my first Fluffernutter Sandwich over the weekend. It was so delicious. Definitely better than just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my opinion.
But I got to thinking... why just stop there? I should add dark chocolate!
So I added some dark chocolate chips and then cooked them in a casserole dish similar to my sister, Kristen's Oven Grilled Sandwiches. As she points out, this method is a great way to cook several sandwiches at once. So if you wanted to celebrate National Fluffernutter Day today with, say, 3 or 4 (or 5!) sandwiches at one time, you could totally do it! The addition of dark chocolate and toasting them made them even better. Now they were toasty on the outside and perfectly melty on the inside. Happy National Fluffernutter Day! -Rachel
Dark Chocolate Chips (about 1-2 Tblsp. per sandwich)
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Put a metal casserole dish in the oven. It will stay in there until you're ready to cook the sandwiches.
Spread peanut butter on one side of half the bread and marshmallow crème on one side of the other half of the bread. Sprinkle chocolate chips onto one side of each sandwich. After putting the sandwiches together, spread a little softened butter on the outside of each sandwich.
Carefully remove the metal casserole dish from the oven and lightly spray with cooking spray. Place the sandwiches in the dish and put back in the oven. Cook for 3-5 minutes, flip them over and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
