Ok, so yes this may seem more a dessert than breakfast -- but have a cup of coffee and side of fruit and it's breakfast for me!
~I love Southern Living, I find their recipes incredibly reliable. So when I saw this recipe in last years Southern Living holiday magazine, I cut out the page and stashed it in my cooking 'to-do' pile! And as usual, Southern Living didn't disappoint! It is sweet but not overly decadent, and makes a perfect baked gift.
Triple Chocolate Coffee Cake
1 (18.25-oz) Devil's food cake mix
1 (3.9-oz) package chocolate instant pudding mix
2 cups sour cream
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
5 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips, divided
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans - optional
1. Beat the first 6 ingredients until just combined. Stir in 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips. Pour batter evenly into 2 greased and floured 9-inch square cake pans. --You'll notice in my picture I used a disposable cake pan, I made one 9-inch cake for a gift, and one for my family.---
2. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
3. Microwave white chocolate chips in 10 second intervals - stirring between each - until melted. Drizzle over cakes. Do the same with the remaining semisweet chips, or sprinkle whole over the top as I did. If adding pecans, sprinkle on last.
